The 4th of July was great. We had a wonderful time in the parade and enjoyed spending time with our friends.
It looks like the 5th will usher in the first real signs of summer for the C'ville area. The 10 day forecast calls for temperatures in the mid to upper 80's and the only chance or rain will come from the typical summer thunderstorms.
It is important to remember that summer weather can stress our lawns. The most important thing you can do to limit stress on your lawn is to mow high. Set your mower on one of the highest settings and do not touch it again until fall. Mowing you grass too short will cause the moisture in the soil to evaporate more quickly. It can also cause more weeds to encroach on your lawn and it will encourage blade growth instead of root growth.
So don't think that mowing your lawn shorter will keep you from mowing as often. The more you cut off, the faster it grows back. So mow high and mow frequently. Your lawn will healthier and more able to tolerate the summer heat.
